Dutton Estate Vineyards, Sonoma may be small but their wines deserve your attention
Assistant Winemaker Kylie Dutton, granddaughter of the winery’s founder, shared her family’s deep roots in Sonoma and talked about how they view themselves as responsible caretakers of the land. The evening allowed us to enjoy 5 different wines paired with the excellent cuisine of Nomad Eatery- the brainchild of owner Scott Cooper. A special highlight of the evening was a double pairing with the lamb course with 2 estate Pinot’s- a ’21 Karmen Isabella and a ’19 Manzana. Each wine was very different but showed well with the lamb.
Best Wine
Most popular wine of the evening was the ’19 Pinot Noir-Manzana Vineyard. It was the “bigger” of the 2 Pinots and although it is still a baby, it was a smooth, elegant wine that enjoyed the challenge of the food but could be enjoyed on its own just as well.
Wine and Food Pairing highlights
The best pairing of the night was the 2021 Dutton Estate Chardonnay, Kyndall’s Reserve with the Lebanese lemon-garlic chicken. This young Chardonnay had a great nose, was well-balanced with a lighter touch of oak. The texture of the chicken and the vino was a lovely complimentary pairing. The finish of the Chardonnay was very smooth and went perfectly with the Butternut Squash Puree that accompanied the dish. Overall, Scott’s culinary team did a fine job pairing these food-friendly wines with their gourmet cuisine. We will be back at Nomad this winter. Hope to see you there!
