SUMMARY:Sheltered in place? Great prices on wine to accompany your "to go" orders at Frito Misto\, Santa Monica (& Hermosa Beach)
DESCRIPTION:Great wine/food pairing: Rigatoni Bolognese and Buttonwood Cabernet Franc \n \nBeginning April 8 and lasting till this crisis ends\, Fritto Misto is offering a great variety of its wonderful dishes for take out dining.  Additionally\, they have reduced the regular\, very reasonable prices of all their wines by 25%.  Create your own wine tasting or wine/food pairing to enjoy at home.  As an example\, the Rigatoni(or other pasta) Bolognese is a great pairing with the 2016 Buttonwood Cabernet Franc.  This Cabernet Franc is not on their online wine list but is available for just $22 (regular $30).  So\, a double entree of the Bolognese plus a bottle of Cab Franc is just $48 plus tax. Single entree and the Cab Franc is $35 plus tax. \nThe picture shows this exact pairing that I recently enjoyed at home in their very eco and stylish take home container.  It was delicious and the pairing worked very well for me.  Let me know what you think. \nClick here for contact info for both locations\, take out menu and further details.

Using a balance of modern\, science-based organic wine production methods and the old world artful traditions that have been part of the Chianti Classico region for over 300 years\, they produce wines that celebrate the marriage of Tuscan terroir and Sangiovese grapes.  Daniel is making one of his rare visits to Los Angeles and will be with us to talk wine\, history and provide a unique perspective of his family’s efforts in the Tuscan hills.  Owner Andrea Inio and his Executive Chef Edin Marroquin have created a tantalizing menu to pair with these wines.  Come take a trip with us to Chianti with leaving the comfort of your chair in Orto.  It will be a night to remember! SUMMARY:SLYD Winery Winemaker Dinner at El Rincon Criollo\, Culver City
DESCRIPTION:El Rincon Criollo & Gourmet Wine Getaways\nProudly present \nA GOURMET WINEMAKER DINNER \nFeaturing the wines of \nSLYD Winery\nSanta Barbara County\, California\nHost: Peter D. Kerr\, Gourmet Wine Getaways Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guest: Owner/Winemaker Spencer Daley \nWednesday\, December 11\, 2019 at 7:00 PM\n$65 per person\, plus tax and gratuity \nOwner/Winemaker Spencer Daley got a relatively early start in the wine business at the age of 13. He and his father literally were garagistes- starting with a couple of rows of grapes in their backyard and making wine 4 years later in their garage from those home-grown Sangiovese and Cabernet grapes. Fast forward to 2015 where\, at age 25\, Spencer is premiering four of his own wines from Santa Barbara County grapes using those same fundamentals he learned from his dad 12 years ago. The name SLYD comes from Spencer’s love of music and is continued in the naming of each of his wines. The connection in his mind is obvious- wine\, like music\, reflects the artist who created it. And\, enjoyment of both is highly influenced by mood and surroundings. Luckily\, El\nRincon’s owner Jason and his culinary team have “composed” the perfect food courses to pair with these four wonderful wines. Join Spencer & Peter as they discuss the Central Coast wine region\, the latest from the winery & Spencer’s take on the world of music. Come celebrate the holiday season with us. We might even get a guitar serenade from Spencer at the end of the meal! \nMENU \nPina Colada Shrimp: Sauteed shrimp in a rum\, coconut & pineapple sauce\n2017 SLYD does Sauvignon Blanc \nShredded Chicken ala Fidel\n2016 Sangiovese \nRoasted Lamb Chop served alongside Saffron Risotto\n2015 Trio (Syrah/Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blend)-It sings! \nBraised short rib over Sweet Potato puree\n2016 “The Show” Syrah (big dog in the kennel) \nChef’s Selection of a Sweet Ending \nFreshly brewed Coffee or Tea \nPrepaid reservations are essential\, as seating is limited. SUMMARY:Stolpman Vineyards Wine Tasting Dinner at Orto Santa Monica
DESCRIPTION:Orto Santa Monica & Gourmet Wine Getaways\nProudly present \nA GOURMET WINE TASTING DINNER \nFeaturing the wines of \nStolpman Vineyards\nBallard Canyon\, Santa Barbara County\, California\nHost: Peter D. Kerr\, Gourmet Wine Getaways’ Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guest: Peter Stolpman\, Managing Partner \nThursday\, October 10\, 2019 at 7:00 PM\n$95 per person\, plus tax and gratuity \nTom & Marilyn Stolpman had one vision when they purchased their 220 acre ranch in Santa Ynez in 1990- provide grapes of outstanding quality to a select number of local winemakers. Planting a few blocks of Cab Franc and Merlot in ’92 set them on their way. But\, in ’97\, they could no longer resist\, and bottled their own first estate vintage\, a mere 660 cases\, under the Stolpman Vineyards label. Over the past 20+ years\, they have grown to over 5\,000 cases and implemented “revolutionary viticulture techniques\, pushing their dry-farmed\, limestone vineyards to unprecedented levels of quality”.  There are now 153 acres planted w/ 30 clones of 15 varietals.  Kyle Knapp is heading up the winemaking team after a 4-year stint as assistant winemaker and 5 years at Beckmen Vineyards.   Managing partner Peter Stolpman will be in the house to share some history and family stories along with the latest scoop from the winery.  Join us for a wonderfully entertaining evening as we enjoy five of these wonderful wines paired with the tantalizing cuisine from owner/chef Andrea Inio & his culinary team.   Grab some friends and make it a great evening of wine\, food and conversation. \nWelcome Reception\nPinzimonio: Farmers Market raw veggies\, olive oil & lemon dipping\n2018 Rose\, Santa Barbara County \nMENU\nFritto Misto Terra e Mare: Fried Calamari\, shrimp\, Mediterranean Smelt\, organic veggies\n2018 “Love you bunches” (100% carbonically-fermented Sangiovese)\, Santa Barbara County \nSpaghetti alla bottarga:  Spaghetti\, Vesuvius cherry tomatoes\, bottarga from Cabras\n2017  Roussanne \, Ballard Canyon \nCavatelli tartufati alla Norcina\nCavatelli pasta\, Italian black head porcini mushrooms\, sausage\, red cow parmigiano\, Umbrian black truffles\n2017 Estate Syrah \, Ballard Canyon \nTalgliata di Manzo: Grilled Black Angus NY steak \, Yukon Gold potatoes\, organic spinach\n2016 Estate Sangiovese \, Ballard Canyon \nFreshly brewed Coffee or Tea \nAdvance\, guaranteed reservations required. SUMMARY:Zaca Mesa Vineyards wines to be featured in Wine Tasting Dinner at Cantalini's\, Playa del Rey
DESCRIPTION:Zaca Mesa’s history dates back to 1973 & it is one of the first wineries in the Santa Barbara County wine region.  Ken Brown\, later of Byron fame\, was the first winemaker.   Ken drafted some soon- to- be regional superstars to join him: Adam Tomlach\, Jim Clendenen and Bob Lindquist.  This amazing team started the winery on its road to success and saw them begin their exclusive attention to Rhone varietals in 1978 with Santa Barbara County’s first Syrah plantings.  Many years and wine awards later\, winemaker Kristin Bryden is continuing the successful Rhone tradition.  The Cantalini culinary team has created an incredible menu to showcase four of these wines including the premier of Inceptive\, a lovely GSM blend & the chance to enjoy a ’12 Mesa Reserve Syrah (both perfect candidates for your Thanksgiving table).  This is our first dinner at this wonderful Italian fixture in Playa del Rey and our last public dinner for 2018. SUMMARY:Duckhorn Vineyards featured at Kapoor's Akbar in DTLA
DESCRIPTION:Duckhorn’s history spans over 40 years.  You might call owner Dan Duckhorn one of the Napa pioneers\, not because he was the first winery (he lost that race by over 100 years!)\, but rather due to the fact that he was among the first to focus on the production of world-class  Napa Valley Merlot-a mere stepchild to the Cabs that Napa was already famous for.  Dan was convinced it could be done and put his passion and energy into his first harvest (1978).  The rest\, shall we say\, is history. In fact\, he was dubbed “Mr. Merlot” by the NY Times-something he is very proud of.  Duckhorn wines are now made under the guidance of Winemaker Renee Ary.  She is only the 4th winemaker in the winery’s 40+ year history.  Tonight\, a Prosecco Welcome Reception will be followed by a       4-course meal\, pairing the gourmet Indian cuisine of owner/chef Avinash Kapoor with 4 outstanding Duckhorn wines (including a Merlot).  This is a rare opportunity to enjoy these highly rated & sought after wines\, so grab some friends and join us for the first wine dinner at this exciting new venue in DTLA.  Gourmet Wine Getaways’ Peter Kerr will discuss & explore these wine & food pairings. \nWelcome Reception\nA refreshing Bubbly to cleanse your palate and knock off the road dust\n\nMenu\nCrispy Samosa pastries stuffed with potatoes\, peas & spices\n2017 Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc (WS-90)\nChef Avi’s Fresh White Fish with Seasonal Veggies\n2016 Duckhorn Chardonnay\, Napa Valley\nShahi Lamb \nSlow-cooked marinated lamb in a cashew & tomato cream sauce \n2014 Duckhorn Merlot\, Napa Valley (WS-92)\nBeef Dopiazza\n             Chunks of tender beef\, onions(double onions)\, & garlic in a delicious sauce seasoned with cardamoms\, cloves & pepper                       Special Basmati Rice \n2015 Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon  (WE-90) \nfreshly brewed coffee/tea\nPrepaid reservations are essential as seating is limited.  Cancellations will only be accepted up to 48 hours in advance. \nReservations: (213) 372-5590\nKapoor’s Akbar\, http://www.kapoorsakbar.com \n \n  \n   \n  \nGourmet Wine Getaways (GWG) strongly encourages guests to utilize Lyft\, Uber & other safe methods of transport in getting to and from wine events. DESCRIPTION:Tivoli Cafe & Gourmet Wine Getaways\nProudly present \nA GOURMET WINE TASTING DINNER \nFeaturing the wines of \nSLYD Winery\nSanta Barbara County\, California\nHost: Peter D. Kerr\, Gourmet Wine Getaways Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guest: Owner/Winemaker Spencer Daley \nTuesday\, October 24\, 2017 at 7:00 PM\n$89 per person\, inclusive of tax and gratuity \nOwner/Winemaker Spencer Daley got a relatively early start in the wine business at the age of 13. Luckily\, the Tivoli culinary team has “composed” the perfect food courses to pair with these four wonderful wines. Join Spencer & Gourmet Wine Getaways’ wine expert Peter Kerr as they discuss the Central Coast wine region\, the latest from the winery & Spencer’s take on the world of music. Who knows- we might just hear Spencer play a little on his guitar if the mood and surroundings are right (which they will be)! \nWelcome Reception\nTomato\, Burrata and Prosciutto\n2016 Medley Rosé \nMENU\nMahi-Mahi on a bed of fresh spinach\, topped with lemon-butter & caper sauce\n2016 “SLYD does Sauvignon Blanc” \nPenne al Ragu with organic ground beef sauce\n2015 Trio (Syrah\, Sangiovese\, Cabernet Sauvignon blend) \nPizza carne e ricotta \n(Italian sausage\, pepperoni\, sun-dried tomatoes and ricotta)\n2014 “The Show” Syrah\, Thompson Vineyard \nA Sweet Ending-Italian Style \nFreshly brewed Coffee or Tea \nPrepaid reservations are essential\, as seating is limited. DESCRIPTION:Sam’s by the Beach & Gourmet Wine Getaways\nPresent \nA WINEMAKER DINNER \nFeaturing \nLumen Wines\nSanta Barbara County\, California\nHost: Peter D. Kerr\, The Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guests: Lane Tanner\, Winemaker; Will Henry\, Owner \nWednesday\, May 17\, 2017 at 7:00 PM\n$89 per person\, inclusive of tax and gratuity \nThe name Lane Tanner is synonymous with Santa Barbara County and great Pinot Noir (along with other varietals as well). She has been making outstanding wine in the region for 30+ years (she started when she was only 5!). As the first female winemaker in the Central Coast\, she worked at Firestone Winery\, Hitching Post Winery and had her own label from 1989 until just a few years ago. Lumen represents a new partnership for Lane and an opportunity to continue her love of making great wine. According to Lane\, “Lumen is an ode to the old-world style of winemaking with grapes picked at phenolic ripeness instead of high sugars\, resulting in wines lower in alcohol”. \nTonight\, Lane & Lumen owner Will Henry will be on hand to give us the “inside scoop” from Lumen. We’ll enjoy 2 of Lumen’s outstanding Pinot Noirs plus 3 other great wines that reveal the breadth of Lane’s talents. The culinary team at Sam’s has creatively paired each wine with a gourmet food course designed to bring out the best in the wine (and the food).
