Herman Story Wines are made by Vailia’s husband Russell From. He is a man of few (written) words\, allowing him to spend more time focused on his wines. The names of his wines\, as you will see\, are basic yet eclectic. Each wine has a story to tell\, requiring it to be consumed to be fully understood. Tonight\, Vailia will join us as we taste 2 of her wines and 2 from Russell. Fear not- she loves and understands his wines as well as her own and is a great spokesperson for both.  The wines will be paired with a delicious gourmet menu created by Orto’s owner Andrea Inio & his culinary team.  All of the featured wines will be available for ordering at very attractive prices (most of them are such small production they never make it to retail shops).  Hope to see you there!\nPicture credit- Avery Watkins \nMENU\nSliced Yukon Gold Potatoes\, leeks\, bottarga \n2022 Desparada Sauvignon Blanc Epione\, Edna Valley \nMushroom cake on cheese fondue\n2022 Herman Story Milk & Honey (Tempranillo/Syrah blend)\, Paso Robles \nPaccheri pasta with veal short rib ragout\n2021 Desparada Sackcloth & Ashes (Cabernet\, Petite Verdot\, Cabernet Franc\, Merlot blend)\, Paso Robles \nBlack Angus Filet Mignon\, Millefeuille potatoes\, Gorgonzola Cheese\n2021 Herman Story Made (Syrah/Barbera/Sangiovese/Teroldego blend) \nFreshly brewed Coffee or Tea \nAdvance\, guaranteed reservations required via the Resy App. Click on RESERVATIONS button below to book. Kerr\, Gourmet Wine Getaways’ Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guest: Mike Sinor\, Owner/Winemaker \nThursday\, June 27\, 2024 at 6:30 PM\n$99 per person\, plus tax and gratuity \nMike Sinor has “quickly” become a legend amongst Central Coast winemakers. The grit and determination he has employed in his winemaking efforts since 1993\, despite any formal training\, have served him well. The Sinor-La Vallee winery was launched in 1997 with his wife Cheri La Vallee and took a quantum leap in 2013 with the purchase of their very own estate vineyard\, the Bassi Vineyard (above) near Avila Beach. In 2006\, Mike helped found Ancient Peaks Winery in Paso Robles. Today\, he is a partner and Director of Winemaking for the winery. This provides him the opportunity to work with grapes from their estate Margarita Vineyard where\, according to Mike\, “the growing conditions are remarkable!” In 2012 Mike was awarded “Winemaker of the Year” for San Luis Obispo County. Tonight\, we will enjoy wines from both of these great wineries paired with the delicious\, eclectic cuisine of Nomad Eatery. If you have not had the pleasure of dining here\, this event provides you with the perfect reason to discover one of the finest restaurants on the ‘southern westside”. Gourmet Wine Getaways’ wine expert Peter Kerr will join Mike to discuss the wines\, the pairings and answer any and all wine-related questions. SUMMARY:Aperture Cellars Wine Tasting Dinner at Akbar\, Marina del Rey
DESCRIPTION:Andy and Jesse Katz\, father and son\, world famous photographer and renowned Sonoma winemaker- each doing his own thing\, but working together to bring a happy ending we can all enjoy\, one bottle at a time.  The aperture of a camera lens adjusts the amount of light a photographer has to work with. Winemaker Jesse (above) says he is focused on shedding light on what Bordeaux varieties in the cooler pockets of Sonoma County are capable of- that is\, letting the terroir speak loud and clear.  According to Decanter Magazine\, “Aperture wines are small batch (and sell out quickly)\, but they are worth searching out\, combining as they do the best of the Old and New World\, delivering a powerful punch but well sculpted with natural balance…”  With this as a background\, we bring you an exceptional opportunity to taste 4 of these outstanding wines that are virtually unavailable except at the winery.  But\, we’ll save you a trip to Sonoma.  Akbar’s Owner/Chef Avinash Kapoor has created a delicious menu of gourmet Indian cuisine that will make these wines shine (but not too much light\, please).   GWG’s Peter Kerr will discuss Aperture’s history & explore the wine & food pairings.  All the wines will also be available for ordering at great prices.  Looking for a unique Mother’s Day\, Father’s Day or college graduation gift for that special wine-loving someone in your life? Look no futher! And\, you can join them to enjoy their gift with them. Space is very limited (22 guests) so reserve early! \n$105 pp plus tax and gratuity \nWelcome Reception- A refreshing bubbly  \nMENU  \nScallops topped with Balchoa sauce\n2022 Aperture Sauvignon Blanc\, barrel fermented\, Sonoma County (WA-95 pts.) \n Shrimp Bhuna Masala: shrimp prepared with veggies and topped with Goa Curry\n2022 Aperture Chenin Blanc\, Clarksburg AVA (WA- 93 pts.) \nChef Avi’s famous Lamb Vindaloo on a bed of Pilau Rice\n2021 Aperture Bordeaux Red Blend\, Alexander Valley (WA- 95 pts.)\n2021 Aperture Cabernet Sauvignon\, Alexander Valley (WA- 96 pts.)

SUMMARY:Kistler Vineyards Wine Tasting Dinner at Akbar\, Marina del Rey
DESCRIPTION:Kistler Vineyards has been synonymous with great wine for over 40 years\, making vineyard designated Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with grapes from some of Sonoma’s finest vineyards. Steve Kistler and Mark Bixler founded this winery in 1978 on the notion that compelling wines of site should be made in California. They have had long-term relationships with local growers (the shortest of which is 30 years) and still\, to this day\, consider themselves to be farmers first. Winemaker Jason Kesner joined Steve in the cellar in 2008 and after Steve’s retirement in 2017\, Jason became President and Head Winemaker to guide Kistler through the next 40 years. Tonight’s dinner will feature two Kistler Chardonnays and two PNO’s perfectly paired with the gourmet Indian cuisine of Akbar’s Owner/Chef Avinash Kapoor. All the wines will be available for ordering at attractive prices. \nAs of April 11th\, the dinner is sold out. Akbar is taking a waitlist so please feel free to phone them and place yourself on the list in case there are cancellations. \n$115 pp plus tax and gratuity \nPhoto credit- Kistler Vineyards

SUMMARY:Montagu Winery Wine Tasting Dinner at Akbar\, Marina del Rey
DESCRIPTION:The name Montagu is not well known in the wine world\, having their family roots in the British automotive industry and Britain’s first Automotive Museum. Kerr\, Gourmet Wine Getaways’ Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guest: Marcus Kempken\, Mosaic Wines \nThursday\, July 27\, 2023 at 7:00 PM\n$99 per person\, plus tax and gratuity \n Saxon Brown was created by grower/winemaker Jeff Gaffner in 1997.  Jeff prides himself on many things including being a 3rd generation Sonoma farmer\, a consultant winemaker to many of the region’s outstanding artisan wineries and for the past 25+ years\, the creator/winemaker of Saxon Brown’s small\, single-vineyard bottlings.  The Wine Spectator raves about his winemaking talents (“deft”) and the Wall St. Journal said “they love his vineyard voice”. Tonight’s wine selections will feature a nicely aged Grenache\, Chardonnay and Zin plus an ’18 Gap’s Crown Vineyard PNO.  The wines will be paired with a delicious gourmet menu created by Orto’s owner Andrea Inio & his culinary team.  All of the featured wines will be available for ordering at very attractive prices (many of them are no longer available on the retail market).  Joining Peter to discuss the winery & wines will be Marcus Kempken\, a thoroughly knowledgeable local Saxon Brown wine expert and great friend of GWG.  We will be moving inside the friendly confines of Orto’s original space so no need to worry if the June gloom continues into July.  Reserve early as we only have space for 40 guests. As Sixth generation farmers and grape growers\, they know their land (all 80 separate vineyards!) and have worked hard to preserve it sustainably using all the latest technology at their disposal. Tonight we will have the pleasure of enjoying 5 of their outstanding wines including 2 of their lovely PNO’s served side-by-side. All of the wines will be perfectly paired with an eclectic menu created by Nomad Eatery featuring tastes of the Mediterranean\, Southeast Asian and Latin world regions . This will be our first dinner at Nomad but it will be a reunion of sorts as owner/chef Scott Cooper\, formerly owner of Jackson’s Village Bistro in Hermosa\, is an old acquaintance of GWG. We did over a dozen dinners at Jackson’s back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and are excited to have reconnected with Scott and his current culinary team and know it will be a night of perfect pairings. Our special guest will be a member of the Dutton family\, Kylie Dutton\, who is also the assistant winemaker. She will give us the inside scoop from the winery and discuss the wines as we enjoy them. All of the wines will be available for ordering at very attractive prices. Attendance will be limited to 30 guests so book your reservations early by calling Nomad at 310-606-5500. He shared a meal in Santa Maria with Au Bon Climat’s Jim Clendenen and Dominique Lafon of Domaine des Comtes Lafon.  After that dinner\, Gary was hooked… on wine!  Funny what a great glass of Meursault will do!  Jim invited Gary to work at ABC the following harvest and was hired full time in 1995.  Meanwhile\, in 1994\, he started Costa de Oro and made one barrel each of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from his family’s Gold Coast Vineyard.  He worked at ABC until 2002 when he decided to throw his full efforts into Costa de Oro.  Production has increased a bit – from 50 cases in 1994 to 6\,500 cases as we speak.  But\, it isn’t just the quantity that has increased. Gary’s wines regularly win critical acclaim from Robert Parker\, James Laube (Wine Spectator) and Wine & Spirits Magazine.  Tonight\, we will have the opportunity to enjoy 4 of his wonderful wines paired with the tantalizing cuisine of owner/chef Lisetta Marie & her culinary staff.  Join Peter and Gary as they explore the history of the region\, the winery and Gary’s wines. \nBurrata & Tomato Salad\n2021 Spring Fling (white blend)\nSeared Scallops Piccata on a bed of arugula & capers\, white wine sauce\n2019 Costa de Oro Chardonnay\, Santa Barbara County\nTagliatelle with a rich\, savory veal ragu\n2019 Costa de Oro Pinot Noir\, Santa Barbara County\nHerb-marinated Australian Lamb Chop with creamy parsnip puree\, fig port reduction\, roasted Brussels sprouts\n2019 Costa de Oro Estate Pinot Noir\, Gold Coast Vineyard\nDolce della Casa\nfreshly brewed coffee/tea \nReservations: (310) 821-0018\nCantalini’s Salerno Beach Restaurant\, www.salernobeach.com  \n \n  \n   \n  \nGourmet Wine Getaways (GWG) strongly encourages guests to utilize Lyft\, Uber & other safe methods of transport in getting to and from wine events. Kerr\, Gourmet Wine Getaways’ Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guests: Owner Will Henry; Winemaker Lane Tanner \nWednesday\, June 15\, 2022 at 7:00 PM\n$99 per person\, plus tax and gratuity \nThe name Lane Tanner is synonymous with Santa Barbara County and great Pinot Noir (along with other varietals as well). Tonight\, Lane(above\, right) & Lumen owner Will Henry (above\, left) will be on hand to give us the “inside scoop” from Lumen. We’ll enjoy 2 of Lumen’s outstanding Pinot Noirs plus 2 other great wines that reveal the breadth of Lane’s talents. SUMMARY:SLYD Winemaker Dinner at Orto Santa Monica
DESCRIPTION:Orto Santa Monica & Gourmet Wine Getaways\nProudly present \nA GOURMET WINE TASTING DINNER \nFeaturing the wines of \nSLYD Wines\nSanta Ynez Valley\, CA\nHost: Peter D. Kerr\, Gourmet Wine Getaways’ Wine Consultant\nSpecial Guest: Spencer Daley\, owner/winemaker \nWednesday\, July 21\, 2021 at 7:00 PM\n$79 per person\, plus tax and gratuity \nOwner/Winemaker Spencer Daley got a relatively early start in the wine business at the age of 13.  He and his father literally were garagistes- starting with a couple of rows of grapes in their backyard and making wine 4 years later in their garage from those home-grown Sangiovese and Cabernet grapes.  Fast forward to 2015 where\, at age 25\, Spencer is premiering four of his own wines from Santa Barbara County grapes using those same fundamentals he learned from his dad 12 years ago.  The name SLYD comes from Spencer’s love of music and is continued in the naming of each of his wines.  The connection in his mind is obvious- wine\, like music\, reflects the artist who created it. And\, enjoyment of both is highly influenced by mood and surroundings.  Luckily\, Owner/Chef Andrea Inio and his culinary team have “composed” the perfect food courses to pair with these four wonderful wines.  Join Spencer & Peter as they discuss the Central Coast wine region\, Spencer’s wines\, the amazing wine/food pairings & Spencer’s take on the world of music.  We will be dining al fresco (outside\, under the stars) on Orto’s piazza so dress warmly! \nMENU\nSan Daniele Prosciutto and fresh melon \n2017 SLYD does Sauvignon Blanc\, Coquelicot Vineyard\, Santa Ynez Valley \nSeafood Salad: Marinated calamari and shrimp\, fresh mango and organic mixed greens in a light citrus dressing\n2017 SLYD Chardonnay\, Shokrian Vineyard\, Cat Canyon\, Los Alamos \nHomemade Trofie Pasta in a veal short rib ragout\n2016 SLYD Sangiovese\, C’ent Anni Vineyard\, Santa Ynez Valley (91 points- W.E.) \nMedaglioni di Manzo ai funghi: Wisconsin Black Angus sliced Filet Mignon in a seasonal mushroom sauce\, Farmers Market organic vegetables\n2015 SLYD Trio (Sangiovese/Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon blend) \nA Sweet Ending-Chef’s choice \nFreshly brewed Coffee or Tea \nAdvance\, guaranteed reservations required. SUMMARY:Duckhorn Vineyards Wine Tasting Dinner at Akbar\, Marina del Rey
DESCRIPTION:Duckhorn’s history spans 45 years.  You might call owner Dan Duckhorn one of the Napa pioneers\, not because his was the first winery (he lost that race by over 100 years!)\, but rather due to the fact that he was among the first to focus on the production of world-class  Napa Valley Merlot-a mere stepchild to the Cabs that Napa was already famous for.  Dan was convinced it could be done and put his passion and energy into his first harvest (1978).  The rest\, shall we say\, is history. In fact\, he was dubbed “Mr. Merlot” by the NY Times-something he is very proud of.  Duckhorn wines are made under the guidance of Winemaker Renée Ary.  She is only the 4th winemaker in the winery’s 40+ year history.  A Welcome Reception bubbly will be followed by a 3-course meal\, pairing the gourmet Indian cuisine of owner/chef Avinash Kapoor with 4 outstanding Duckhorn wines.  All the wines will be available for purchase at special prices even if you are not able to attend the dinner (contact Bart@GourmetWineGetaways.com for further information). Gourmet Wine Getaways’ Peter Kerr will discuss Duckhorn’s history & explore these wine & food pairings. Join us under the stars (dress warmly) in Akbar’s new outdoor patio section for a rare opportunity to enjoy these highly rated & sought after wines.  It’s our first in-person wine dinner in 16 months so we hope you can be a part of it. Cost is $75 pp plus tax and gratuity. \nImportant note: COVID-19 vaccinations are highly recommended. Parties of less than 4 guests must be willing to share a table with other guests. \nWelcome Reception- A refreshing bubbly  \nMENU  \n Garlic Shrimp(shrimp sauteed with garlic\, onions\, serrano & tamarind)\n2020 Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc \nTandoori BBQ Chicken\, marinated in Akbar BBQ sauce & special Indian spices.
