Two generations later\, having acquired 100 acres nearly 15 years prior\, Articondo’s grandson Larry and his wife learned that the SB County wine industry was literally exploding so they had their acreage tested to see if grapes could do well. The answer is in the bottles of wine they now proudly produce having literally “put down roots” in Santa Ynez with the founding of Grassini Family Vineyards. Tonight\, we will enjoy 4 of their outstanding wines including the “Articondo”\, a Cabernet blend named for the man who had the vision and courage to cross the Atlantic in search of a better life. The wines will be paired with a delicious gourmet menu created by Orto’s owner Andrea Inio & his culinary team. Articondo’s great-granddaughter Katie (pictured above) will join Peter to talk about the wines\, the region and of course\, her family. DESCRIPTION:Abadia Retuerta’s history dates back to the 11th century when Christian Monks built the historic monastery & first planted vines on what would eventually become the Abadia estate. The 1980’s were a major turning point\, however\, as the last of the old vines were replaced with new\, sturdy root stock that would form the basis for their move into fine wine production. The current winery was built in 1996 and for the last 30 years\, they have focused on producing wines that have garnered acclaim throughout the wine world. Tonight\, after a lovely Cava Welcome Reception\, we will have the opportunity to taste three of Abadia’s outstanding wines perfectly paired with the unique and tasty cuisine of Chef Oscar and his culinary team. Sergio Sabater will join us to discuss the history of this boutique gem of a winery along with providing the inside scoop on what the future holds.
