Kistler Vineyards & Occidental Wines shine with Akbar’s cuisine
World-class wines from Sonoma’s Steve Kistler were the order of the evening. Kistler provided two great Chardonnays and, from Steve’s relatively new Occidental Wines label, guests enjoyed 3 different Pinot Noirs (none rated lower than 94 points).
The 2014 Occidental Bodega Highlands Cuvee Elizabeth was a strong crowd-pleaser among a very strong lineup of competitors. Rated at 97 points by two significant wine critics, it truly lived up to its hype.
Wine and Food Pairing highlights
The best pairing of the night, sneaking in under the radar, was Akbar’s amazing Scallops Balchoa dish paired with a 2014 Kistler Chardonnay, Vine Hill Vineyard. The texture and flavor profile of the food was perfect for this big Chardonnay.
Executive Chef Avinash Kapoor and his culinary team did a great job creating ideal pairings for what some would consider very intimidating wines.
