Caymus Vineyards and the Wagner Family shined at Akbar Marina del Rey wine dinner

It was a family affair, sort of.  Guests at this wine dinner were treated to 2 Caymus wines and 2 wines from the Wagner’s Family of Wines: Mer Soleil and Emmolo.

Best Wine

Most popular wine of the evening was the 2015 Caymus Vineyards “Special Selection” Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley  This show-stopper had everyone talking and loving its balance, texture and potential for long aging.

Wine and Food Pairing highlights

The best pairing of the night was a tossup.  The 2016 Emmolo Merlot was a perfect texture and flavor match for Akbar‘s signature Coco Lamb dish.  But, the first pairing of the 2017 Mer Soleil Reserve Chardonnay with Chef Avi’s  Tangy Garlic Shrimp in a Bowl was dynamite as well.  The Chardonnay tamed the spiciness of the shrimp dish and flavors were singing together. Overall, Chef Avi did a fine job pairing these food-friendly wines with his gourmet Indian cuisine.
