Buttonwood Wines make “magic” with Chef Christine Brown’s unique menu

All jokes aside, the first Winemaker Dinner at Hermosa Beach’s Comedy and Magic Club was a sellout.  Chef Christine Brown created an ambitious menu that highlighted the food-friendly wines of Buttonwood Winery   and those fortunate to attend  enjoyed every bite.  Most were asking when the next wine dinner at this iconic venue was going to be scheduled.

Best Wine

Most popular wine of the evening was a flat-footed toss up between the 2016 Estate Sauvignon Blanc and the 2014 Estate Cabernet Franc.  Both wines are signature varietals from Buttonwood Winery whose 30+ year history shows there is room for an excellent mid-sized winery in a strongly competitive area like Santa Barbara County.

Wine and Food Pairing highlights

The best pairing of the night was actually a multi-faceted one- the ’16 Sauvignon Blanc was paired with 3 different appetizers to start the evening.  The apps included Prosciutto-wrapped Papaya, Mushroom and Goat Cheese in puff pastry and a dill and basil-infused Shrimp “shooter”.  Amazingly, the wine went perfectly with all three apps.

Executive Chef Christine Brown and her culinary team did a great job creating ideal pairings and shared the spot light with Buttonwood’s outstanding wines.
